Students have to decorate and furnish a new bedroom.  Students are given a budget with which to paint, carpet and furnish a bedroom.  Skills include: budgeting, working out areas, converting units of measure (eg mm to cm to m), time durations, scale drawing, multiplying decimals.
Students need to know that an area of a rectangle = length x width and how to multiply decimals (or use a calculator).

All 5 sheets have similar format and questions but are all slightly different so the students could be given all five sheets to complete over 5 days or the 5 different sheets can be distributed around the class, ensuring students can not copy their neighbour’s.

To solve the problems students must find the value of one item first. The numbers used in questions 1 to 4 are easy. Questions 5 and 6 involve short division/short multiplication.
